AFENET SIERRA LEONE

ABOUT US

AFENET Sierra Leone

The African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) is a not-forprofit networking and service organization that closely collaborates with Ministries of Health (MoHs) and a range of partners to improve public health systems,  contributing to continental and global health security. These collaborative efforts align with our vision to achieve “A healthier Africa”.

In 2016, AFENET began working in Sierra Leone in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS), supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC), to establish the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP). The FETP was developed with the aim of enhancing the capacity of Sierra Leone’s public health personnel to apply epidemiological skills in preventing, detecting, and responding to threats posed by public health emergencies.

In 2018, AFENET started supporting the MoHS in the introduction and strengthening of electronic case-based surveillance systems (eCBDS), which fully transformed its paper-based surveillance system into an electronic one.
